I have heard so many people talk about animals and how they don't have feelings. I don't understand how they can think that. We have two cats and every day they do something that surprizes and amazes me.
Because of the busyness of the holiday season on both parts, two days ago was the first time we got to see our friend who was home on break from university. He was over while I was at work and then came over again last night so I cooked dinner, dessert, we watched Blues Brothers and played Mod Nation racers.
During the summer last year Trevor came over quite frequently. We hung out a bunch playing video games, taking pictures, watching movies. Loads of fun.
Max... Max is my little boy. He is a momma's boy through and through. Max has always had a general distrust for men. He 'likes' Dave. Actually he loves Dave but doesn't care to admit it. Other guys though, not his favourite people in the world.
Because Trevor had come over so much in the summer, Max grew to... tolerate him. Heck I think he even liked him a bit. He would even visit him a bit. Then Trevor went back to school.
So two days ago Trevor came back. As usual when we got home, well they, I wasn't there, Max didn't come downstairs. After awhile, Max came downstairs and froze when he saw Trevor. He could not believe what he was seeing. He sat and stared at him with this look of distrust for awhile and then went back upstairs. Not impressed.
Then last night when Trevor here, while Max did spend some time downstairs he always watched Trevor with more of a glare than anything. It was pretty funny to watch. When it came time to take Trevor home, I decided to take Max with me. Normally when you get into the car with Max, he uses the middle between the front seats to get to the back. Well, last night Trevor was sitting in the passenger seat. Max jumped over my shoulder to get to the back. Then proceeded to watch Trevor, well no, he glared at Trevor most of the ride.
When Max and I got back home, Dave and I talked about his behavior. He had also talked with a friend about it. We figure that he either was jealous and afraid of competition or he was upset with Trevor leaving. Now personally, I'm under the second opinion. I think he was pissed off at Trevor for being gone for so long.
This story just shows to me that cats do feel things! It is clear to me and Dave that Max was upset. We may not be entirely sure why but we could definitely tell he was.
